BPD establishes 24/7 tip line for rape suspect. Anyone with information pls call 888-223-0033

Baltimore police have established a 24-hour tip line to collect public leads in a series of recent rapes.

The tip line, at 888-223-0033, is staffed by officers familiar with the cases, Anthony Guglielmi, the Police
Department's chief spokesman, said Friday.  Guglielmi said the community has already stepped forth with
helpful information.  The tip line was established after nine reported sexual assaults since Oct. 20.  Some of
those attacks, including the most recent on Wednesday in the 2700 block of Brendan Ave., occurred near bus
stops, primarily in East Baltimore. Police are investigating whether they are linked.

Investigators have released a sketch of a possible suspect in two of the bus stop attacks, in which the
assailant used a shard of glass as a weapon.  Another string of sexual assaults, occurring during the same
time span, seem to be related to home break-ins, according to police.

Sex Offense Unit   Attached you will find a Wanted Flyer containing the Composite Drawing produced by the
Victim in the Rape/Attempt Murder which occured on 30 October 2009 in the 1300 blk of N. Central Avneue.
Superivors are asked to please make sure that the same flyer is distributed throughout the District, Posts,
and area Communities in an effort to make an identification ASAP.  If you have any questions regarding the
attached flyer, or in reference to the open case, please feel free to contact me at the Sex Offense Unit.  Thanks
again for your assistance!

GANGS are an increasing threat to our nation's youth and to those living in the State of Maryland.
The Governor's Office of Crime Control and Prevention provided a grant to the University of Maryland's Public
Safety Training and Technical Assistance Program to develop this website so that parents, educators and
public officials would have a resource to learn about combating gangs.
Through a better understanding of gangs, the public can become an essential resource in combating gangs
and in helping our youth avoid gang involvement.

Gangs are a relatively recent problem in much of the State of Maryland. While no jurisdiction in Maryland
has implemented a comprehensive program to both prevent youth from joining gangs and intervening to
assist youth already in a gang, there are effective programs throughout the State to assist youth at-risk for
delinquent behavior.

Gang involvement is directly related to crime, often violent crime. Research shows that gang involvement
often has a long-term negative impact on adolescents’ lives. Regardless of whether the child admits gang
involvement or you strongly suspect it, seek help to get them out of gang involvement. Your first source of
assistance would be your child’s school counselor or pupil personnel worker.

One of the best ways to prevent your child from becoming involved with gangs is to remain active in their lives.
Maintain open communication with your son or daughter so that you know who their friends are and how they
spend their time. Any parent of a teenager will agree that this can be easier said than done. As adolescents
develop their independence, they can become angry at what they perceive as too much parental involvement.
Stay the course; be as involved as you can and show them your love and concern.

To report gang activity that is an immediate threat to life or property, citizens should call 911
